Change an action from the settings menu

The binding shown in your settings is the useful reference for your run. Check its category and any conflict message before copying a key from an older video.

  1. Open Settings and find the controls or keybinding page.
  2. Choose the correct category, such as on-foot or driving.
  3. Select the action you want to change and assign the new key.
  4. Resolve any conflict warning before testing that action in the game.
  5. Test vehicle actions while parked, so an accidental movement does not become the test.

Read the current interaction prompt

When you hold an item or sit in the driving position, use the action prompt shown by your build. A key from an older video may have been rebound by the player or changed between updates.

For a no-start issue, the ignition message is more useful than repeatedly pressing a guessed start key. For a chest, finish exposing it before treating a failed interact action as a binding fault.

The Demo and the full-game page are different promises

An October 18 Steam post specifically asks why the Demo does not accept a controller even though the main store page advertises controller support. That is a current player report, not a platform-wide test. NPC Tips also attributes full gamepad support to an Early Access launch plan.

For the Demo today, use keyboard and mouse for the documented Demo controls. Do not buy a different controller on the assumption that this specific Demo problem is a broken gamepad.

Check the release build when it arrives

The October 18 official announcement moved release into the final week of October, so Early Access controller behavior cannot be treated as tested on October 20. Once playing the released build, check its own input settings and device behavior rather than applying Demo complaints automatically.

Movement-key remapping complaints exist in older reports. The sources do not establish that every movement action can be changed successfully in the current Demo, so the official remapping feature is not a guarantee for every protected action.
